In November of 1911, Benson Auto Co., Inc. was founded as the brainchild of Harold A. Benson, and Ray Benson, brothers, and Roy Benson, a cousin. All of whom came from Vermont. In 1915 they were awarded the Chevrolet franchise and drove their first chevrolet car from New York City (where the factory was located) in two days. A few days later, Ray left the concern and moved back to Vermont, while Harold and Ray continued as partners. The partnership continued until Harold's death in 1957. The dealership continued to grow with two of Harolds sons, Earl H. and Ervin E. Benson, at the helm. n April 1,1958 the brothers made the declaration "As of today, we have become the new owners of Benson Auto Co., Inc. We will carry on the business at the same location with the same experienced personnel. We look forward to meeting and serving all of the customers, old and new. We will go right on offering you the best in new and used cars, and the best mechanical service. Earl and Ervin stood by their statement until the day they both retired. In 1970 it became apparent that the original building was too small and too ineffective. Plans for a new building at the same location were set into motion. On Dec 16, 1970 the new building was dedicated and the business continued to grow. In April 1987, Earl retired and left his responsibilities to his son Jack E. Benson. Jack joined Ervin with directing the dealership onward, until Ervins retirement in April,1993. Under Jack's direction, the dealership continues to grow. In addition to a top service department, a full body shop was developed. In 1994 the property adjacent to the south of the dealership was purchased and the grounds were finished to house new and used vehicles. In 1998, a new body shop was built to provide more room and better service, including new state of the art down draft paint spray booth. In 1999 more land on the south end of the dealership was purchased and is now being used to accommodate more vehicles. Corey Benson, Jack's son, has now joined Jack in owning ...
