Chartwell Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving children with autism spectrum disorder. From the beginning, Chartwell has had key partnerships with several universities in the New Orleans community. Other than the Chartwell Center, there are no private programs specifically designed to serve children of the age range we serve on the autism spectrum. Chartwell was founded, after extensive research, in 1999 by parents and professionals concerned about the urgent lack of autism-specific education in the greater New Orleans community, and has developed into a private educational program for children and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Over the last 15 years, Chartwell has grown from a single classroom to a 5000 square foot state-of-the-art facility. The mission of the Chartwell Center is to serve children ages three to maturity with ASD by providing evidence based best-practice autism-specific direct educational services and by offering training, and technical support based on these specialized methods to parents, teachers and other professionals throughout the community. The vision at Chartwell is to refine and update our educational program; to equip students with the necessary tools to be successful as well as expanding and enhancing our outreach training program and continue to build autism awareness in the community. In furtherance of that vision, we have opened the Chartwell Clinic. The Clinic will enhance our curriculum by integrating formal applied behavior analysis (ABA) into our program. ABA is based on principles of learning theory and has demonstrated, over time, to be highly successful in assisting children with autism achieve their maximum potential. This new development of the Chartwell Clinic will also offer services to other children in the community not attending Chartwell. Chartwell's strategic objectives are to continue to refine and update its best-practice educational program; to equip students with the necessary tools to be successful in future school ...
