Founded in 1924, Congressional Country Club has a rich history. In 1943 the Club was leased to the Government, where the Office of Strategic Services moved and trained its men in espionage, sabotage, parachuting and other skills. A number of U.S. Presidents have been members of or have visited the Club. Presidents Coolidge, Taft, Hoover, Wilson and Harding were lifetime members. In recent times, Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton have visited the Club. As testament to the commitment to the game of golf, Congressional and its members graciously have offered their facilities to several major golf events. Among them are the USGA Women's Amateur in 1959, the 1964 U.S. Open and the 58th PGA National Championship in 1976. From 1980 to 1986, Congressional Country Club hosted the prestigious Kemper Open and in 1995 hosted the U.S. Senior Open. In recent years Congressional has hosted the 2005 Booze Allen Classic and is home to the AT & T National Tournament hosted by Tiger Woods.
