Originally established in 1935 by the Estate of John K. Crosswell as a home for local orphans, Crosswell Home for Children has been a home to over 700 children. Today we carry on Mr. Crosswell's legacy by providing a home to children who are unable to live with their families for various reasons. The reasons children come to the Home may have changed but our mission and ministry is still as vital and important as any time in our history. Crosswell Home is located on approximately 28 acres in Sumter, SC and is licensed to provide care for up to 40 children. Children live in cottages based on their age and gender and are supervised at all times by Cottage Parents. Our children attend local public schools and are involved in local churches and a variety of extracurricular activities. Crosswell Home partners with local agencies to provide counseling and related services as needed by the children in our care. Our program is designed to meet the needs of children with mild behavior and or emotional issues and problems. There are many different reasons that children, youth and families may seek our services. Some of these reasons may include the death of a parent or both parents, separation or divorce, financial crisis or the physical inability to care for a child. Other families may be experiencing chemical dependency or abuse issues. The parent or guardian may be dealing with serious health problems or advancing age. Crosswell Home also serves children and youth that may be in the custody of the State of South Carolina due to abuse, abandonment or neglect. Whatever the issues that leads to placement, Crosswell Home seeks to minister to children, youth and families, in a safe and nurturing Christian community. Children come to Crosswell primarily from Sumter and surrounding counties but our services are available to children and families throughout South Carolina. Some children stay with us only a few days, others may live with us for a few years. However long children are with us, our goal is to be a Home where ...
