DSI was founded in1970 by Arnold Bullock and has been a Vitality/Sunkist distributor for more than 50 years, as he had been involved with that program from its beginnings in the late 1950s. Until the mid 1970s, DSI sold all of its goods through associate-distributors. In 1976, it started its own trucking department, built freezers in both locations, and became immersed in self-distribution. DSI operated like that for a number of years and then ultimately realized that full line distributors were so much more efficient, so it reverted to the previous status of being a master distributor and having all goods hauled by the full line houses, like US Foods, Sysco, PFG. And in recent years, DSI has experienced growth by marketing the "repair" service independent of product sales; over the last ten years its "service for hire" has become a significant part of its total revenue. Today DSI works closely with its primary supplier, Nestles, and with most all the major distributors as listed, in each market. Likewise, it services the equipment of many of the large food suppliers and national chains, specializing in coffee, tea, and espresso. We at DSI try to genuinely out-service our competitors.
