To me, being a CPA is about building relationships with my clients and being a resource to you throughout the year, not just at tax time. 2. Why did you become a CPA? When I graduated with my Accounting Degree from Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) in 1995, I did not plan on going into public accounting. However, that was where the jobs were. I worked for two CPA firms which allowed me to gain valuable tax and bookkeeping experience. When my son was born in 1999 I was very blessed to become a stay at home Mom. My daughter was born a few years later and I continued to be at home. When she started school, I realized I needed something to occupy my time, but I still wanted the freedom/flexibility to be with my family. This led me to start my Bookkeeping business out of my home. About six months into this, I felt the Lord leading me to pursue my CPA license. My first thought was there is no way I'm going to put myself through that again (I had "attempted" it once right after college and said I would "never" do that again!). I knew it would be very time consuming and challenging and on top of that, I had a family to take care of now. However, the Lord changed my heart and therefore my attitude about it, allowing me to see it in a totally different light (it still amazes me how He can do that, if we are just willing to let Him...). By His grace and mercy, lots and lots of prayers, and very supportive family and friends, I was able to pass the exam and earn my license! Having CPA behind my name gives me another opportunity to serve the Lord by helping others through the mine field of personal and business taxes and the uncertainties associated with small business ownership. I truly count it a blessing to be able to help others in whatever capacity the Lord allows. 3. What memberships do you hold? I am a member of the AICPA (American Institute of CPA's) and the NATP (National Association of Tax Professionals). 4. What do you enjoy doing in your "spare time"? "? I enjoy spending time with my family, from traveling ...

What Skills Does a person Need at Edge, Cpa Llc?

At Edge, Cpa Llc, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Tax Return: Calculating an entity’s income earned with the amount of tax payable to the government, organizations, or potential taxpayers.
  2. Tax Preparation: Tax preparation is the process of preparing tax returns, often income tax returns, often for a person other than the taxpayer, and generally for compensation. Tax preparation may be done by the taxpayer with or without the help of tax preparation software and online services. Tax preparation may also be done by a licensed professional such as an attorney, certified public accountant or enrolled agent, or by an unlicensed tax preparation business. Because United States income tax laws are considered to be complicated, many taxpayers seek outside assistance with taxes (59.2% of individual tax returns in 2007 were filed by paid preparers). The remainder of this article describes tax preparation by someone other than the taxpayer. Some states have licensing requirements for anyone who prepares tax returns for a fee and some for fee-based preparation of state tax returns only. The Free File Alliance provides free tax preparation software for individuals with less than $58,000 of adjusted gross income for tax year 2010. People who make more than $58,000 can use Free File Fillable Forms, electronic versions of U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) paper forms.
  3. Accounting: Creating financial statements and reports based on the summary of financial and business transactions.
  4. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
  5. CPA: A CPA, or Certified Public Accountant, is a trusted financial advisor who helps individuals, businesses, and other organizations plan and reach their financial goals.
