JAGORI (meaning "awaken, woman?) is a womens training, documentation, communication and resource centre that was established in 1984, with the following objectives: Consciousness raising and awareness building amongst women in rural and urban areas regarding their legal rights, health issues, and other issues central to womens empowerment, such as livelihood, womens education, rights of the girl child and so on. Production and distribution of creative material including publications and communication packages on various issues for different groups Establishment of a documentation and resource centre on issues related to womens rights, to meet the information and analysis needs of other women?s groups, NGOs and the development sector. Contribute to the Indian womens movement by adding to existing bodies of knowledge on womens status in India. In pursuit of these objectives, JAGORI undertakes the following main activities: Training for womens empowerment and gender equality; Building grassroots leadership for strengthening womens movements; Research on issues concerning women and impacting their status; Preparation and distribution of advocacy and educational materials on a wide range of issues including womens health, education and legal rights.
