La Scuola is a Reggio Emilia inspired School for children 6 weeks to 5th grade. La Scuola's mission is to create a dynamic, engaging, child-centered community characterized by developmentally appropriate learning, risk-free exploration, mutual cooperation, genuine diversity, and consistent respect. We offer families the assurance of a safe and caring environment for their children and an atmosphere of support and understanding for themselves. We view children as powerful individuals. We respect children for who they are now, as well as for their potential. While we are focused on preparing children for their future, we also attend to their current intellectual and creative needs, making their days in our school as fulfilling as we hope their future will be. Throughout the school, there are various opportunities for children to interact. There is a center Piazza, located at the entrance of the school, which is accessible from all classrooms. We have wall-sized windows and unbreakable mirrors placed on the floors, walls and ceilings that establish a space filled with opportunity. Rather than the usual store bought decorations, our school is decorated with photographs of the children, children's work, and visually pleasing natural materials, such as plants, seashells, pine cones and pebbles, just to mention a few. The walls throughout the school are used as spaces for temporary and permanent exhibits of what the children and teachers have created. Each classroom is equipped with temperature control and low and wide windows to provide children's visual access to other classrooms. Our school also has a kitchen where hot balanced meals are prepared daily. Our dining area faces the outdoor playground. In collaboration with the parents, we are beginning the process of finding a name for this special place in our school. The school serves breakfast and lunch. A monthly menu is posted on our website under News as well as in the school. In order to emphasize a stronger sense of community, the teachers eat lunch with the ...
