Welcome to Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, the home of the Fighting Trojans! LSVI's roots trace back to 1852, and the school has maintained a commitment to offer blind and visually impaired children the academic, vocational, athletic and social opportunities that will prepare them to achieve their full potential. In addition to core curriculum, instruction is provided in adaptive physical education, daily living skills, vocational training and other specific areas directly related to the education of blind and visually impaired students. Orientation and Mobility Specialists train the students to travel safely and independently from one place to another. Education continues beyond the classroom setting. LSVI's after-school program provides children with the opportunity to participate in tutoring sessions, art and music lessons, and other activities. Our dormitory program enriches the student's education by providing life experiences in a home-like atmosphere. Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired has an overall goal to provide a structured educational program in a supportive environment, to encourage social interaction, and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
