Moove In Self Storage was founded in 1997 by the Gilliland family, who are originally from Warriors Mark, PA. Yes, there are supposed to be two O's in Moove! The story behind the name all started on the farm. You see, John H. Gilliland grew up on Gillbrook farms raising and milking registered Holstein cows with his family. His father, John G. Gilliland, and mother, Karen, decided to sell the last of the cows in the late 80s. In the mid 90s, John H. came back to Pennsylvania after going to college (Cal Poly, majoring in Dairy Science of all things) and working in commercial real estate in southern California. After working for a couple of local PA real estate companies, his entrepreneurial spirit was bursting within him and he decided to strike out on his own in the niche market of self storage. John G., Karen and John H. sat around the family dinner table working on the business plan for the new venture. When the topic of a name came up, John H. said, "Well, we are moving out of the dairy business and moving into the storage business, maybe we should call it Moove In Self Storage! And thus, the name was born. The first facility was in built in the village of Bald Eagle outside of Tyrone, PA. The land was purchased (for $13,200 by the way!) and the first building was opened with 54 units just before Christmas of 1997. The next two properties were purchased and developed around Huntingdon, PA. Then our first Lancaster County facility was built in 2001, with York County properties to follow starting in 2002. We expanded into Maryland in 2014, and New Jersey in 2016. Currently, Moove In Self Storage has 21 locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey with more under development. Our prototype storage facilities feature offices with gambrel roofs like a barn, complete with cow weather vanes. Inside, we utilize steel sheeting for the counters, barn lights and lots of cow spots on everything we do. We love to use the cow theme in all our branding and marketing. What Skills Does a person Need at Moove?

At Moove, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Leadership: Knowledge of and ability to employ effective strategies that motivate and guide other members within our business to achieve optimum results.
  2. Planning: An act or process of making or carrying out plans. Establishment of goals, policies, and procedures for a social or economic unit city planning business planning.
  3. Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system. It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to solve it, and make the product or process operational again. Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms. Determining the most likely cause is a process of elimination—eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally, troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working state. In general, troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the management flow of a system caused by a failure of some kind. The problem is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining and remedying the causes of these symptoms. A system can be described in terms of its expected, desired or intended behavior (usually, for artificial systems, its purpose). Events or inputs to the system are expected to generate specific results or outputs. (For example, selecting the "print" option from various computer applications is intended to result in a hardcopy emerging from some specific device). Any unexpected or undesirable behavior is a symptom. Troubleshooting is the process of isolating the specific cause or causes of the symptom. Frequently the symptom is a failure of the product or process to produce any results. (Nothing was printed, for example). Corrective action can then be taken to prevent further failures of a similar kind.
  4. Analysis: Analysis is the process of considering something carefully or using statistical methods in order to understand it or explain it.
  5. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
