OHIO Design is a designer and builder of modern furniture and interiors. We've been in business since 2000 and are based in San Francisco, CA. Our affordable, high quality products and spaces are rooted in honesty: of design, materials, method and character. No matter the piece, the size of the project, residential or commercial - we make furniture to be lived on, with and around - supporting the personality of the environment it inhabits.OHIO takes pride in crafting interesting materials into new and beautiful furnishings and spaces. Salvaged pieces, knotted and quirky wood grains all present a welcomed challenge -the possibility of a one-of-a-kind piece, brought to life by the material's natural characteristics. We value raw materials and the finished piece; the home it decorates and the people using it; the makers who made it and the designers who designed it. We consider the entire process important. To start, we select our materials with sustainability in mind, using them where and when they make the most sense. Steel for structure, lightness and durability; woods for touch; plywood with a fast-growing alder core and a veneer of a slower growing hardwood, such as walnut or maple; and solid wood on seating and handles only. All of the plywoods used by OHIO are carb compliant (formaldehyde free, with no off-gassing). We don't believe in fiberboard, melamine, or particleboard. All of our hardwoods are either Forest Stewardship Council certified, sustainably grown domestically, or salvaged locally.
