PLAN of PA - Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of Pennsylvania - was founded in 1989 by a group of families who each had a mentally disabled family member. Our Board of Directors still includes many members who have a connection to a loved one with a mental illness. PLAN's mission is to provide support to caregivers of individuals with mental illness, autism, brain injury, or intellectual disability in the five-county Greater Philadelphia area through two key services: Care Management and Special Needs Trust. Representative Payee Services are an added value service offered to our Care Management and Special Needs Trust Clients. Our goal is to provide support and advocate for families to help manage the difficulties of navigating the system. We continue the care when the family can no longer act as caretaker, providing critical services not provided by public benefit programs. PLAN is a member of the National PLAN Alliance, a coalition of 18 PLAN affiliates in 22 states. It is the only nonprofit in the country dedicated solely to meeting the planning needs of families with children having lifelong disabilities. We are also professional members of area Estate Planning Councils as well as various disability support and advocacy organizations, including the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) and ASCEND, the Asperger and Autism Alliance for Greater Philadelphia.
