Project M.O.R.E., Inc. was established in 1974 by a diverse group of individuals. Their resolve was to assist ex-offenders with re-entry into their community - thus the official name: Project Model Offender Reintegration Experience. Initially, PMI was under the sponsorship of the now defunct Hill Neighborhood Corporation, in which it remained until 1976 when it became a non-profit agency of its own. Upon start-up, the mission was clear though difficult: to provide employment opportunities, therapeutic services, and other programming and services that would assist clients in a positive transition home from prison. While that mission remains the same today as it was then, PMI has broadened its focus to provide comprehensive programs and services that better equips clients for today's economic and social climates. Project M.O.R.E., Inc. has grown to operate the Alternatives In the Community Programs, the Walter Brooks Halfway House, The Project Green Transitional House, the Virginia Wells Transitional House, the Roger Everson Supportive Housing Facility, the Dutchess County Residential House (located in Poughkeepsie, New York), Probation Violation Residential Stabilization Center (PVRSC) and the Women's Reporting Center (WRC) - as well as other services catering to the complex needs of the clients.
