Ready Funeral & Cremation Service, Inc. is a family owned business founded by George W. Ready in 1912. The original Ready Funeral home was located on Cherry Street in Burlington where the Ready family lived upstairs, which was quite common in those days. When "Urban Renewal" swept through Burlington in the 60's, the Ready's were forced to relocate so that what is now the Cherry Street garage could be built. At the time, George was close to retiring and his son Bill was running the business alongside his father. Bill found the house on Shelburne Road and despite many warnings that the location would be too far outside the city, decided to buy the building and expand to serve families. Little did everyone know that Shelburne Road would become such a busy corridor and that development would continue much further to the South.
