SKMC, LLP was formed in West Los Angeles in 2005 through the merger of two, well-established firms: Sanders, Carter & Company, LLP and Engel, Kalvin, McMillan & Company, LLP. Sanders, Carter & Company, LLP was formed in 1987 by Michael Carter, CPA and his partner, both of whom were involved with large, local firms for many years. The firm was very successful as the result of their stellar service, innovation and decisive problem-solving in the course of providing a full spectrum of accounting, tax, auditing, business consulting/development and information technology services. Engel, Kalvin, McMillan & Company, LLP (EKMK) was formed in 1990 by CPAs Morris Engel and Michael Kalvin who had been partners at Laventhol & Horwath, formerly a leading international accounting and consulting firm. In 1995, Thomas McMillan, CPA joined EKMK after leaving his position as an audit partner with the national firm BDO, Seidman, LLP. With Mr. McMillan's extensive auditing expertise, EKMK expanded its services to include attestation engagements, such as audits and reviews of non-public companies. In January 2005, Michael Carter, CPA joined forces with Michael Kalvin, CPA and Thomas McMillan, CPA to form SKMC. Stan Shimohara, CPA, a tax partner from a premier Big Four accounting firm in Los Angeles, joined SKMC as a partner in 2005. In 2008, Ada Wong, CPA, became SKMC's fifth partner. Today, SKMC, LLP functions under the leadership of its five partners who provide direction and expertise with the support of its professional and administrative staff.
