Vin Alabiso is President of VJA inc., the Visual Journalism Alliance, a research and consulting firm that assists leading media and cultural organizations, such as The New York Times, Sony Music, The National Archives, and many others in identifying and expanding the revenue potential of their content. In this role, he led the wire services complete transition from film to digital photography. Under his leadership, AP was honored with nine Pulitzer Prizes in Photography and was recognized annually in virtually every major photojournalism competition. He has served as Chairman of the Board of The Alexia Foundation, which provides grants to professional and student photographers, encouraging cultural understanding through their work. He is currently an advisor to the African-American photographers organization Kamoinge and he also serves on the board of the Great Lakes Media Institute, an organization that targets journalism education across all media types in developing regions. He has also been a member of the board of the Eddie Adams Workshop. Throughout his career, Alabiso has fostered the professional growth of others, conducting seminars and workshops around the world for The Alexia Foundation, World Press Photo, AP and the Freedom Forum. He created APs Diverse Visions Workshop, which was recognized as one of photojournalisms prominent training programs. He has taught at Boston University and been a guest lecturer at educational institutions in the U.S. and abroad.
