Associate Dean of Medicine assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of medicine. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Medicine provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Medicine typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Medicine typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Position Information: NWHSU is seeking a visionary and collaborative dean with a deep commitment to advancing education and practice in the field of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to lead our College of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (CACM). The dean is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the college in support of the University's goals; ensuring the college is offering a vibrant, relevant, and effective curriculum; budgeting and allocating investments; leading a high-performing team within the CACM, and continuously improving student, faculty, program, and college outcomes.

    Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week; must live locally and be able to come to campus as needed.

    Relocation: Relocation assistance is available for this position.

    Duties:

    • Lead the CACM strategic planning process, assuring that the College's plans support and align to the University's Strategic Plan
    • Create a high functioning and well supported team within the CACM faculty
    • Responsible for oversight of curriculum quality in collaboration with faculty and relevant committees - including curriculum content, delivery methods, program outcomes, and learning outcomes
    • Create and implement a program road map for the CACM that clearly establishes its position in the field/market
    • Faculty recruitment, development, performance management
    • Collaborate with Admissions, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and Marketing to support enrollment, events, and retention efforts for CACM
    • Oversee and manage CACM budgets
    • Collaborate with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) on all institutional and programmatic accreditation efforts, site visits and completes the required reports, documentation, and self-study processes
    • Serve as chief liaison between program accreditors, state boards, and licensing organizations
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, alumni, and external partners
    • We anticipate the time allocation to be 75% administration and 25% teaching

    What do you need to have?

    • Doctor of Acupuncture or Doctor of Chinese Medicine
    • Licensed Acupuncturist or eligible for MN licensure within first 6 months
    • 3-5 years management experience
    • 3 years of higher education teaching experience, preferred
    • Experience leading and managing faculty in a higher education setting, preferred
    • A unique blend of academic expertise, administrative acumen, and a passion for whole-person healthcare.

    Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Effectively present information to administrative colleagues, public groups, and the University Board of Trustees.
    • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting common professional and academic journals, financial reports, and legal and accreditation documents
    • Ability to direct attention to multiple tasks and work collaboratively with peers, faculty, and students
    • Experience using common application software's such as Microsoft Office, preferred
