Conducts research and testing to address specific medical conditions, improve the performance of existing devices, and develop new products. Being a Biomedical Engineer collaborates with medical professionals to gather information for product specifications. Ensures that designs and devices meet regulatory, safety, and quality requirements and standards, such as the FDA regulations and ISO standards. Additionally, Biomedical Engineer utilizes or develops software to perform testing or integrate with devices. Requires a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or a related engineering or science discipline. Typically reports to a manager. The Biomedical Engineer work is closely managed.     We're seeking a Biomedical Technician to join our team! The BMET II position is secondary tier level role with responsibilities for general and advanced patient care equipment service and maintenance performance. Both levels have direct reporting responsibilities to the assigned affiliate Unity Point Clinical Engineer Site Manager or designated Supervisor. This position will specifically assist with dialysis equipment.

    Location: Onsite- Waterloo, Iowa Allen Hospital

    Hours: PRN- As needed, up to 15 hours/month

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for coordination and performance of medical equipment project management assignments generally associated with either system relocations or new facility additions/renovations.
    • Performs electrical safety testing and quality assurance inspections of all general medical devices.
    • Must be able to understand and demonstrate required troubleshooting skills, decipher electronic schematics and use of service manual documentation.
    • Must have general knowledge and understanding of PC’s and required computer/network operating systems.
    • Coordinates and performs both scheduled and emergency equipment repairs of general and advanced medical devices as assigned seeing them through to completion and return back to the clinical environment.
    • Responsible for recording in the Clinical Engineering CMMS software database any assigned medical device service or maintenance event performed. All recordings are to be accurate and timely in manner to assure integrity of all CMMS archived medical device and staff work performance history.
    • Adheres to assigned on-call rotations at assigned affiliate site and follows required availability and reporting to site as identified in the Clinical Engineering On-Call policy.
    • Communicates and updates all clinical customers as to medical equipment service and maintenance events and device status to assure best delivery of care for all UPH affiliate patients.
    • Provides education to clinical customers as to proper use and operation of medical equipment.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Associates degree from an accredited biomedical, electronics technology program, military biomedical certification or equivalent is preferred.

    Experience:

      • Minimum three (3) years experience in addition to education typically acquired through an accredited biomedical, electronics technology program or military biomedical certification.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Requires knowledge of federal healthcare laws and regulations.
    • Excellent academic credentials with a track record of professional accomplishments, which demonstrate superior performance, leadership and vision.
    • Possesses excellent written and verbal communications.
    • Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
    • Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
