  • The Olympic Regional Authority (Olympic Authority) manages and operates a variety of venues located in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York consisting of: three alpine skiing venues – Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, Gore Mountain in North Creek, and Belleayre Mountain in Highmount; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt Van Hoevenberg in the Town of North Elba, a Nordic cross country skiing and biathlon venue; the Olympic Jumping Complex in the Town of North Elba; and the Olympic Oval and Olympic Center in the Village of Lake Placid including three indoor ice skating rinks, the Olympic Museum, and the Lake Placid Conference Center.

    Position Overview

    The Business and Guest Operations Manager at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and administrative operations of the center. This position ensures the efficient running of all business functions, including budgeting and financial reporting. The Business and Guest Operations Manager reports to the Olympic Legacy Sites Business and Guest Operations Manager and Olympic Center General Manager and works closely with department heads, ensuring alignment with the center's strategic goals and objectives.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Business and Guest Operations Manager is pivotal in maintaining the fiscal health and operational efficiency of the Olympic Center. Regular duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Developing and managing the center's annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with strategic goals.
    • Overseeing financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and presenting reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
    • Managing procurement processes, including vendor negotiations, contract management, and inventory control, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
    • Assisting the human resources function, including recruitment and employee relations.
    • Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard the center's assets and ensure the integrity of financial transactions.
    • Collaborating with the marketing and events teams to develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and enhance the center's profile.
    • Leading and managing a team of administrative and operating staff dedicated to supporting the guest experience, providing mentorship, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
    • Regularly reviewing and improving operating and business processes and standards to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, as well as guest engagement, across the organization.

    Skills and Preferred Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a business management role, preferably within a nonprofit or public sector organization.
    • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
    • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
    • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
    • Experience in the sports or recreation industry.
    • Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and grant administration.

    Salary Range and Benefits:

    This position has a minimum salary of $64,510 and a maximum salary of $92,894 per year. The hiring range for this specific position is $68,000 - $72,000 per year. Final offer will be within the hiring range and will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

    The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (paid parental, sick, vacation, and personal time); paid holidays; health, dental, and vision insurances; long term disability and supplemental life insurance at preferred rates; participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems; and optional participation in NYS Deferred Compensation.
