Clinical Outcomes Director directs in-depth analysis of clinical outcomes data to develop clinical process improvement initiatives. Oversees and leads staff who gather data on performance metrics and facilitates the review of clinical program effectiveness. Being a Clinical Outcomes Director creates, defines, and implements performance metrics to review program effectiveness. Evaluates patient data to ensure that care is provided in accordance with clinical guidelines and organizational standards. Additionally, Clinical Outcomes Director identifies opportunities and provides recommendations to improve program delivery, patient outcomes, and operational efficiency. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or healthcare related area. May require a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Typically reports to senior management. The Clinical Outcomes Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Clinical Outcomes Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Acute Care Director is responsible for the 24/7 clinical and business operations of the inpatient nursing units including MedSurg, ICU, House Supervisors and Clinical Education. The Director is also responsible for the personnel, quality, service and financial health of the units. The Director is flexible, consistent and approachable for other health care workers while encouraging a shared decision-making, giving staff nurses a voice in patient care decision.

    Essential Functions:
    • Acts as a nursing role model adhering to hospital standards.
    • ssists in formulating objectives; establishes standards of nursing care and nursing practice.
    • Assists with developing priorities, goals, and action plans; develops and maintains scheduling for staff to provide safe and competent nursing care.
    • Evaluates the nursing care given and makes recommendations to develop plans for improvements, assists with development and implementation of excellent service standards and patient satisfaction. Abstracts and submits Quality Performance data in a timely manner.
    • Serves as a resource person; develops, interprets, supports and implements policies and procedures; responsible for planning, preparation, utilization, evaluation and monitoring of budget.
    • Facilitates communication and problem solving for departments; serves on committees; serves as a liaison between the medical staff and ancillary department
    • Follow the standard for infection control: hand washing, protective eyewear, mask, gown, gloves, head cover, and shoe cover, as appropriate. Proper disposal of contaminated items and the use of isolation.
    • Communicates with Nursing Staff in an effective and positive manner via monthly staff meetings to disseminate hospital directives, maintain communication with staff, and build team confidence. Effectively communicates, coaches and disciplines per hospital property.
    • Selects, orients, supervises and evaluates clinical nurses; establishes standards of performance and maintains an evaluation system for clinical personnel; assists with identifying educational needs for staff and communicates with educational personnel.
    • Has the ability to demonstrate the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications in compliance with the physician's orders and applicable hospital policy, interpreting diagnostic tests, assessing and reassessing the patients level of pain with the appropriate interventions, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with the Interdisciplinary Team Members and providing education to patients and /or significant others (while in compliance with HIPAA)
    • The Unit Manager must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups; must- demonstrate knowledge of the principle.

    Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
    • A graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. BSN preferred with 3 years of experience.
    • License appropriate to the state of North Carolina and the appropriate certification to the position and St. Luke’s Hospital.
    • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain courteous relationships with patients, families, visitors, and St. Luke’s Hospital employees.
    • BLS required and current. ACLS and PALS recommended.
    • Knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit and St. Luke's Hospital.
    • Participates in ongoing education relative to role as defined by unit requirements.
    • Assists in formulating objectives; establishes standards of nursing care and nursing practice.
