Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The compensation manager coordinates and supervises the activities related to the department's statewide compensation and classification program; provides guidance to district human resources managers and supervisors on compensation related issues. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.


    What you’ll do:

    • Supervises and conducts the ongoing analysis and evaluation of jobs and the maintenance of the department's internal compensation structure.
    • Directs and supervises the development and maintenance of the department's job descriptions and job specifications.
    • Directs and supervises the interpretation and usage of salary survey data and other compensation related information.
    • Researches, develops, and suggests modifications to existing compensation policies and procedures, as well as responds to ad hoc legislative requests and oversees overtime administration.
    • Supervises the monitoring of personnel transactions for compliance with compensation policies and practices, as well as advises staff on concerning compensation issues and monitors statewide compliance to policies and procedures.

    All you need for success:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree: Business Administration, Human Resources/Personnel Management, or related field
    • Six years of professional experience in human resources.

    Special Working Conditions:

    • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
    • Hybrid telework may be considered after successful completion of the probationary period.
