Dean of Sciences manages administrative functions of the college of science. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Sciences leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Sciences requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Sciences manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Dean of Sciences typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Salary Range: $50,000- $60,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

    Hours: up to 40 hours per week, exempt.

    Essential Functions

    To provide executive-level administrative support for the Dean of College.

    Core Responsibilities
    • Responsible for a variety of administrative services in support of the Dean.
    • Provides organization and oversight of special projects; management of the Dean's schedule and calendar; coordination of communication from and to the Dean's office.
    • Collaborates with the Dean to draft, edit, and review research proposals, activity status reports on grants, manuscripts, and other reports related to individual scientific endeavors.
    • Handles, reviews, and prioritizes for action on all correspondence; makes travel arrangements; monitors and maintains schedules; and performs related administrative activities to assure full executive-level service.
    • Coordinates and conducts follow-ups on the Dean's administrative activities and projects to ensure deadlines are met ahead of schedule and deliverables meet or exceed quality standards.
    • Assists in maintaining the Dean's editorial duties to include: formatting changes to scientific texts and resubmitting for final reviews and approvals; preparing peer review journal submissions for editorial examination.
    • Monitors and directs internal and external phone calls.
    • Maintains the Dean's filing system.
    • Promotes an environment of safety and protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
    • Five (5) years of professional administrative experience.
    • Additional experience or education may substitute for education or experience on a one-for-one basis.
    • Ability to work independently and handle various tasks.
    • Proven track record of excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.
    • Capable of coordinating complex projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.

    Working Conditions

    Working Environment:
    • Office environment.
    • Requires use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
    • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
    • Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.

    Physical Demands:
    • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
    • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.

    This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
