Materials Handling Supervisor supervises and coordinates the work of employees who load and unload material within a warehouse or storage facility. Processes orders from requisitions and dispenses items from stock. Being a Materials Handling Supervisor oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from aircraft, trucks or trains and within the storage facility. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Additionally, Materials Handling Supervisor ensures procedures are according to specifications and that resources are used effectively and work schedules and targets are met. May assist in inventory of stock and stock rotation. Enters information into a computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock records, retrieve stored data, or respond to inquiries about inventory levels or delivery schedules. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Materials Handling Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision.     Tour of duty: Monday - Saturday 10:00pm- 6:30am

    Shift May Change Due to Operating Needs of Management.

    Major Duties:

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Performs administrative and technical supervisory functions for subordinates.
    • Assigns duties and evaluates performance.
    • Manages the organizational unit's budget and workload, and develops performance requirements.
    • Resolves complaints and grievances. Provides for employee skills enrichment through job related coaching, mentoring and training.
    • Establishes deadlines, priorities, work sequences and plans work assignments, based on general work schedules, methods and policies set by higher level supervisors.
    • Ensures materials and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
    • Ensures that each employee has a full workload.
    • Checks work in progress and when completed, and checks for compliance with instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines.
    • Demonstrates proper work methods and answers workers' questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives.
    • Ensures tools are properly used.
    • Ensures machines are functioning correctly and necessary preventative maintenance is performed and deficiencies are documented and reported according to policy.
    • Utilizes a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take correction action on unsafe conditions in managed areas.

    Materials Handling:

    • Orders and purchases equipment and furniture for special functions set-ups.
    • Stores, delivers and sets up equipment and furniture in rooms used for special functions for meetings.
    • Responsible for maintenance, storage and repair of furniture and equipment.
    • Purchases necessary inside equipment, such as chairs, tables, easels, podiums, coat racks, etc. and equipment for outside maintenance, such as power washers, bobcats, leaf blowers, etc.
    • Receives and unloads designated conveyances, palletizes and stacks material.
    • Examines packaging material for conformity with security requisitions which includes proper markings, method of packing and required shipping protections.
    • Opens containers and checks materials received against invoice report or receipt document, comparing short titles, stock numbers, register numbers and quantity.
    • Separates material received in accordance with serviceability condition and forwards accordingly. Initials accountable receipt document assuming responsibility for accuracy.
    • Operates industrial vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and other cleaning tools and equipment to vacuum rugs, clean floors, base-boards and performs other routine cleaning tasks.
    • Loads, transports, unloads and assembles tools, parts and materials.
    • Ensures worksites are cleaned.
    • Ensures floors are stripped, waxed, polished and buffed.
    • Loads and unloads trash and recycling.

    Custodial and Laboring:

    • Operates, cleans, makes adjustments and performs minor maintenance to powered cleaning equipment, as required.
    • Sets up, moves and works from lifts and ladders, and/or from scaffolds.
    • Operates heavy powered cleaning equipment such as wall washers, carpet cleaning machines, and industrial-type buffers.
    • Operates industrial-type equipment for tasks such as waxing and polishing floors; washing walls; and vacuuming rugs.
    • Maintains and replaces brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments.
    • Selects cleaning materials for linoleum, wood, marble, tile, sandstone, bronze, concrete, stainless steel, glass, porcelain, and plastic.
    • Cleans marks and stains from a wide variety of surfaces, using an assortment of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.
    • Prepares areas for cleaning by performing tasks such as pre-vacuuming, or moving heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment.
    • Distributes necessary supplies, such as toilet tissue, towels, soap, and paper towels.
    • Reports defective equipment in the assigned areas that are not operating properly and which require repair.
    • Collects, and sorts recyclable trash, including aluminum cans, plastic/glass bottles, paper, and newspapers which are collected from various locations.
    • Collects wet waste material as required and determined by management and relines all wet waste containers.
    • Performs general labor tasks, such as loading and unloading trucks
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
