DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: Repairs and maintains machinery and equipment at a
municipal wastewater treatment plant. The work involves the efficient and workmanlike performance of a
variety of repair and maintenance tasks involving wastewater treatment plant equipment. General
instructions are received regarding work of ordinary difficulty, permitting leeway for planning technical work
details. Detailed instructions are usually received for new or difficult assignments. The work is performed
under general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Superintendent, with leeway
allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Supervision may be exercised over the work of helpers or
laborers. The incumbent performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications at time of application.
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND two (2) years of
experience in the maintenance of wastewater treatment and related equipment, or other mechanical repair
work of a similar nature.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license at time of appointment.
License must remain valid throughout appointment.
NOTE: Verifiable part-time experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
