Job Description

The Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe takes patient history, conducts visual acuity screenings, and performs various technical procedures, including refractometry, tonometry, lensometry, and keratometry. Provides technical services to assigned ophthalmic patients and assists ophthalmologists or optometrists in the examination and treatment of eye disorders. Being an Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe operates, maintains, and sanitizes ophthalmic equipment and instruments. Prepares patients for exams and procedures. In addition, Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe may assist physicians in performing minor surgical and laser procedures. May dispense contact lenses. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. May require a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification. Ophthalmic Technician/Scribe's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)
