Works with coding databases and confirms DRG assignments. Being a Medical Records Coding Technician inputs and maintains data on procedures required for state or other reporting. Typically requires an associate degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Medical Records Coding Technician typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from AAPC or AHIMA. The Medical Records Coding Technician gains or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.
