What does a Human Resources Generalist do at companies like ACCO BRANDS CORP?

BASIC FUNCTION:  The HR Generalist, in conjunction with the Site HR Manager assists in delivering HR functional support to the facility as an employee advocate, process expert and business driver. The HR Generalist will have the opportunity to work within the full scope of activities such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, regulatory and legal compliance, policy administration and employee training and development in a collaborative, team based environment to help the facility achieve their Operational Excellence goals. 

DUTIES:

Administers Human Resources policies and programs to support best business practices

  • Acts as point of contact for employee questions or issues concerning HR policies, programs and benefits; provides responses in a timely manner and redirects employees to appropriate outsourced vendors
  • Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed
  • Administer collection and retention of records, forms, documentation and other record keeping information relating to employees and employment issues such as personal employment data, legal defense data, worker’s compensation, etc.
  • Administers recruiting, hiring and orientation activities for hourly positions, as well as the college student program; manages through complete life cycle of an employee (all stages including retirement/termination); assists with hiring salary positions as needed
  • Coordinate temporary staffing needs of the company
  • Research information for management staff as required or for special projects
  • Work with other HR groups throughout the corporation, or others in the delivery of initiatives to be implemented or in the resolution of problems or questions
  • Assist with local community public relations programs designed to create and maintain a favorable public image for the employer, including onsite visits and external job fairs.
  • Assist with labor relations issues and negotiations prep as needed
  • Support change management processes and attend trainings as required
  • Serves as editor of plant newspaper
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Management or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in HR Generalist role or 5 years’ experience in an HR related role
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to be able to multi-task
  • Clear, effective communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team player with an approachable disposition
  • Current knowledge of employment laws and best practices
  • Ability to deliver under pressure, hard-working and results focused
  • Displays strong personal credibility and integrity
  • Ability to learn and utilize proficiently, all location and corporate HR systems
  • Strong customer focus
  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization
  • SHRM, HRCI or other HR related training/certification is a plus
