Aclara is seeking an experienced technician to support strong EHS programs and systems by partnering with the various functions supporting Operations and ultimately work to help provide a safe work environment. This person will minimize employee injuries and vehicle incidents by helping front line employees identify and eliminate work place hazards, reduce workers compensation and vehicle liability claims, and support Project Managers in their efforts to develop and maintain a culture of safety.
Essential Functions:
Health & Safety:
• Conduct job safety observations (JSOs), coaching front line employees and contractors on safe work practices.
• Provide coaching to supervisors on how to complete effective JSOs.
• Respond and coach operations management team in investigations of incidents.
• Lead tailboard meetings and coach supervisors on how to improve all safety meetings.
• Conduct monthly EHS training using materials provided.
• Facilitate Safety Committee meetings.
• Complete Decision Driving ride-alongs and training of all employees.
• Maintain EHS files and records such as first report of injury, accident investigation, OSHA 300 / 301 logs, and other Federal or locally required documents.
• Attend customer/contractor safety meetings and present EH&S related information as needed.
• Utilize EHS guidance documents provided by the Aclara EHS team.
• Conduct annual EHS audits.
Environmental:
• Provide guidance and audit site managers and warehouse teams in the proper segregation and proper recycling of meter materials and parts.
Additional Responsibilities:
• Miscellaneous administrative work (i.e., complete Gensuite entries, obtain quotes, purchase supplies).
• Provide EHS Manager and Director regular reports on efforts to improve the safety culture of the project.
• Participate in EHS team offsite meetings.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Required:
• Associates degree in Occupational Safety or technical field.
- - In lieu of an Associate’s degree, 5 years’ experience in a related safety role may be considered.
• 3 years’ experience in a field operational capacity (Field Technician, operations safety or management).
• Knowledge of electrical safety practices as they relate to the utilities industry.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current industry standards (OSHA 1910, NFPA, etc.).
• Successful record of implementing and leading teams to achieve a common goal.
• Must have analytical and problem-solving ability.
• Strong project management skills.
• Proven computer proficiency.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to conduct training classes.
• Driver’s license and ability to drive in metro NYC area.
Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in the area of Occupational Safety or related field.
• CSP, CHMM, CHST, SGE or other similar professional certification.
Physical Demand:
• Ability to travel to other Aclara sites and field service teams for training, audits or other EHS support projects.
