The Technical Manager is responsible for leading the technical proposal efforts across the Aclara businesses. This position supports the company’s Orders and Revenue targets in conjunction with protecting the company from commercial and technical risk through the creation and contracting of quality deals.

Essential Functions:

• Lead the technical proposal responses to customer RFPs, including post-submittal follow-up questions and clarifications
• Assist in the technical bid/no-bid decision and strategy.  Work alongside Product Management in assessing the best technical solution for a customer RFP.
• Drive the proposal technical offering and ensure technical bid completion and compliance to RFPs
• Evaluate the bid responses to ensure both compliance and responsiveness to the customer’s issues and needs.
• Coordinate and own proposal writing/editing/rewriting efforts.
• Initial, front-line subject matter expert (SME) responsible for the completion of the RFP responses; work with established SMEs to ensure up-to-date and accurate responses.
• Identify, mitigate, record and manage the necessary management approvals associated with technical offerings including approval to quote NPIs still in development, deviations in standard offerings, new NPIs needed to be compliant, etc.
• Project manage the timely completion of the technical proposal response in conjunction with the Commercial Leader.
• Work alongside Commercial Leaders and Sales Directors to ensure that proposal content aligns with bid and sales strategies.
• Identify potential risks to the Commercial Leader in the process of RFP/bid requirements reviews.
• Support meetings with customers, including pre-bid, shortlist and negotiation of the technical portion of proposals, as needed.

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent related field/work experience
• Exemplary communication skills, verbal and written
• Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary functions (engineering, sales, operations, etc.)
• General business acumen
• High productivity in keyboarding and document editing
• Effective project management, meeting management and problem resolution skills with the ability to organize complex ideas and concepts are necessary
• Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Highly self-motivated and committed to extended working hours, as required, to meet deadlines

Preferred:

• Project Management and/or Sales experience
• Working with multiple disciplines
• Executive level presentation skills
• Solid finance skills including evaluation of profitability, product cost and pricing.
• Experience with technology proposal writing, technical writing
• Industrial, Energy or Utility industry experience.
• Experience creating, reviewing and editing complex proposals in response to RFP’s and RFI’s.
• Work experience background within the utility industry, particularly to support data communication projects and emerging utility technologies.

• Less than 20% travel.
