The Systems Specialist ensures the stability, reliability, and growth of city's IT infrastructure using robust troubleshooting and problem solving. Troubleshoots and resolves user or systems issues specifically with the Physical and Virtual Server and Storage Environment, Microsoft Server network products, related peripherals and applications, and issues involving email and active directory.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
· Manages all aspects of VMWare infrastructure.
· Manages MS Active Directory, including Group Policy.
· Managers MS Exchange environment.
· Supports data center to desktop operations of the City. Provides customer service, case handling, change control and systems administration.
· Install and maintain physical and virtual Windows Servers.
· Patch management.
· Plans and implements Information Technology projects as directed by Information Technology management. Researches potential solutions and vendors, determines internal and external requirements.
· Evaluates vendors, products, pricing and solutions. Develops test procedures and metrics for new systems success. Develops training materials to directly train staff.
· Ensures secure and resilient operations for the City technology operating environment. Implements and maintains system security and user access control.
· Troubleshoots server, storage area networks and Information Technology infrastructure. Deploys and maintains physical/virtual applications, servers, desktops and related infrastructure.
· Achieves maximum uptime, solutions availability, user-side performance, disaster recovery and integration. Defines and monitors performance metrics to identify and correct deficiencies.
· Performs related work as required.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
· Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Qualitative Systems or a related field
· At least five (5) years of related work experience working as Server/Systems Administrator
· Three (3) to five (5) years’ of in depth experience with VMware.
· Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
