ESD-U is a teaching certification program that is operated by ESD 112. ESD-U is a residency-based, flexible program that offers a 'retooling' route for currently certified teachers seeking to add an endorsement to their existing certificate, in addition to Route 2, 3, or 4 alternative routes to teacher certification. As a retooling candidate in the ESD-U program, you will be required to complete a partial year residency that matches the expectation for your route, in addition to attending program courses and seminars. Essential Function: - Participate in all required courses and seminars.
- Participate in self-selected seminars, as well as seminars recommended by field supervisor or principal.
- Meet with field supervisor per Individualized Teacher Development Plan.
- Complete residency requirements as determined by route.
- Prepare for, take, and pass endorsement test (WEST-E or NES) prior to program completion.
- Submit tuition payments in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills: - Refer to ESD-U Application Checklist for additional details.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Current Washington State teaching certificate.
- Letter of support from your school district administrator or supervisor verifying your good standing with your current school district and providing assurances that your district will provide appropriate access to instructional opportunities during your required residency if employed during the 2020-2021 school year.
- Meet the age, good moral character, and professional fitness requirements as outlined in WAC 181-86-013.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills: - Knowledge of the community and culture of the population you would be serving as a teacher.
- A skill-set that includes good time management, personal organization, collaboration, and effective communication skills.
- Disposition that includes commitment, reflectiveness, cultural competency, capacity for learning and growth, self-awareness, and coachability.
Working Conditions: - Travel to ESD 112 Conference Center to attend courses and seminars, unless previously arranged to attend remotely via Zoom video-conference system.
Employment (Admission) Requirements: - Successful submission of all components of ESD-U application by May 1, 2020.
- Pass reference check process.
- Agreement from school district to provide applicant with appropriate access to instructional opportunities to complete the required residency hours. ESD-U program will communicate with school district human resources representatives and building principals to confirm this agreement.
- References clarification: In this application, please include at least THREE (3) people that we may contact for references. These individuals should be familiar with your skills and knowledge. Of these individuals, ONE (1) must be your current school district administrator or supervisor. If you do not currently work in a school district, it should be someone who is able to provide us information about your skills, experience, and commitment to working with children and youth.
