GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGNS Campus Organizer Salary in the United States

Accelerating climate change is the most urgent and essential threat to our planet’s future, and yet corporate decision-makers have been catastrophically slow to act.

The food industry is a major climate culprit. Meat and other livestock products we eat are responsible for nearly 15 percent of global climate change emissions. In fact, meat is responsible for as much climate pollution as all transportation worldwide.

A handful of enormous food businesses make up the majority of demand for these climate-wrecking products. These food service businesses generate a large portion of their profits by serving millions of college students at campuses across the country: the same students whose future will be determined by the actions we take on climate change.

A few large corporations have the power to make a significant impact in global climate emissions, but they won’t do it until the pressure is on. At Grassroots Campaigns, we’re hiring talented campus organizers at colleges and universities around the country to make sure they hear directly from the students whose futures are on the line.

Responsibilities

• Recruit student activists to participate in your campaign
• Organize and orchestrate weekly events to bring attention to the issue
• Quickly build relationships with organization and activists already working on campus
• Canvass on-campus for petition signatures or other similar tactics

Qualifications

• You’re fiercely committed to project of stopping climate change
• You’re highly self-directed and are consistently able to manage your own time and solve problems independently
• You’re an exceptional written and verbal communicator, great at rallying people to your cause
• You’re a natural coalition-builder, and you excel at building and working on diverse teams
• Previous campus organizing experience as either a student activist or a professional organizer is a plus

Expectations

• Project will begin in mid-January and run through the spring semester. Preference will be given to candidates interested in and available to continue on staff with other programs following this campaign.
• This is a full-time position that will require long and sometimes irregular hours, including work on evenings and weekends

Locations

Positions available on campuses nationwide. Priority locations include Boston, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Tempe, AZ, Chapel Hill, NC, and Miami, FL, but other locations will be considered.
