A day in the life?

As Director, Outsourced Accounting and Finance you will have primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day accounting and finance activities for Network for Good, a Delaware nonprofit corporation (“NFG-DAF”), our affiliated $500 million sponsor of donor advised funds. In this role, you can understand and analyze the big picture as well as drill down and be hands on in day-to-day activities. You will be responsible for all aspects of general ledger and financial activities including proper application of US GAAP for donation processing, preparing GL account reconciliations, overseeing the accounting of grants and reissues, preparing the monthly close, as well as providing financial reporting, insights and analyses in a fast-paced, non-traditional environment. We are looking for someone who has excellent problem solving and communication skills and enjoys working in a challenging and fast-paced environment to support our continued success. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer of Network for Good.

We're looking for a Rockstar who can:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the business operations, financial reporting requirements and general ledger structure.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger closing processes.
  • Provide fully analyzed financial statements and reporting to CFO of NFG-DAF.
  • Prepare journal entries and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Review and post accounts payable and accounts receivable entries.
  • Contribute to the efficiency of the accounting and donor advised fund operations teams by participating in cross training, sharing job responsibilities, and serving as position backup for other team members.
  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders throughout the organization and with external partners in order to understand the accounting impact and potential risks of proposed partnerships and initiatives.
  • Perform financial and other business analyses to understand financial statement variances and business impacts to proposed initiatives.
  • Analyze business and financial risks for the organizations related to the donor advised funds as well as find solutions to mitigate the risks and optimize risk versus reward.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate internal accounting controls, systems, and procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial reports.
  • Document policies, procedures and workflows for accounting and internal controls as well as other work tasks.
  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives making accounting, reconciliation, financial risk, reporting and other processes more accurate and efficient.
  • Lead or participate in ad-hoc or multi-functional projects as needed by the organization.
  • Work as primary liaison with external auditor to prepare annual audited financial statements for NFG_DAF.
  • With the assistance of third-party audit and legal resources, prepare the Form 990 for NFG-DAF and state-level reports and forms required for charitable fundraising.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA required. MBA is a strong plus.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP required.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience, through a mix of Big 4 experience, or accounting experience at a medium to large nonprofit with a demonstrated increase of responsibilities and leadership.
  • Experienced with accounting concepts related to Non-Profits and donor advised funds is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics GP is strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Products – especially strong Excel expertise.
  • Proficiency with visualization tools like Tableau is a plus.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented and intensely deadline-driven environment
  • Proven ability working cross-functionally.
  • Strong written and oral communication and ability to relate and communicate effectively across all levels of staff inside and outside the department.
  • Ability to review current processes with a critical lens and develop ideas for improvement.
  • Hands-on, energetic, organized, team player with proven ability to adapt quickly in a changing environment and facilitate change, multitask effectively and work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, quickly determine the requirements to accomplish them, and analyze the processes to figure out how to simplify, automate, and improve them for increased efficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information and a sense of strong business ethics.
