Position Summary:  The Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Clinical Supervisor will ensure high quality, culturally attuned care to all relatives (patients) seeking substance use disorder services. This is also in accordance with the WA state Administrative Codes, IHS, federal, state and county regulations. The SUD Clinical supervisor provides clinical supervision, training, and mentorship to SUDPs, SUDPT's, and other clinical positions that support the SUD department. The SUDP Supervisor ensures that all clinical charts comply with the county, state, managed care organizations, and other funding contract requirements, and oversees day-to-day SUD clinical and other program operations of the department at our 3 outpatient clinics in Seattle. Upon re-opening of our residential treatment center, the SUD Clinical supervisor will work very closely to ensure continuity of care for relatives entering or exiting residential treatment.

 

The SUD Clinical Supervisor will work in close collaboration with our Medical, Case management, and Traditional Indian Medicine Department to ensure our Indigenous Knowledge Informed Systems-of-Care (Traditional Medicines) are being woven throughout every aspect of service delivery of all treatment programs, creating treatment environments that foster recovery and healing for the population(s) being served.

 

Organizational Structure/Reporting Relationships:

The SUD Clinical Supervisor will work under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Director (BHD). This position will supervise a team of SUDPs as well as any SUDPTs that provide clinical care at our 3 outpatient clinics in Seattle.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct clinical care for relatives seeking SUD services.
  • Responsible for hiring team of SUDPs, providing staff schedules and adjustments to schedule day-to-day.
  • Oversee clinical supervision and direction for SUD services at our 3 outpatient clinics.
  • Demonstrate clinical knowledge, ethics, and awareness surrounding crisis intervention and standard clinical practice.
  • Facilitate and/or co-facilitate weekly Multi-Disciplinary Case Staffing Meetings (Clinical Group Supervision). The SIHB’s Integrated Health System provides holistic care to be delivered to the population we serve.
  • Provide on-going monthly clinical didactic trainings
  • Provide on-going clinical group supervision to further develop and enhance the clinical knowledge of the treatment team.
  • In addition to group supervision, the Clinical Supervisor will provide Individual Supervision to Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainees and/or Substance Use Disorder Professionals who may require additional guidance (collaboration between clinician and clinical supervisor).
  • Provide individual weekly supervision to Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainees and/or practicum students.
  • Ensure clinical documentation policies are upheld for all practitioners in the department.
  • Conduct bi-monthly quality assurance chart reviews (internal audits) to ensure each provider remains in compliance with governing and licensing agencies. Utilization review of all clinical records to ensure all consumers are receiving adequate treatment and care to address diagnosis/diagnoses. Utilization review will be conducted during weekly clinical staffing, review of diagnosis/diagnoses, review of Individual Service Plan (ISP) to ensure appropriate intervention(s)/treatment(s) are being applied to address identified goals, and measurable outcomes are being demonstrated.
  • Provide clinical oversight for imminent and/or unusual situations pertaining to client care.
  • Work in close collaboration with other departments to ensure integrated, culturally-attend, continuity of care.
  • Work in coordination with the other Outpatient/Residential Clinical Supervisor(s) to ensure coordination of care is occurring for dual diagnosis/co-occurring individuals.
  • Create clinical policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure appropriate clinical processes are being met.
  • Ability to maintain and enforce strict confidentiality of Behavioral Health Records and adhere to the standards for health recordkeeping, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA and Privacy Act requirements.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks, manage time, and meet all reporting deadlines.
  • Punctual to appointments and meetings and holds teams accountable for this as well.

Qualifications


Background Qualifications:

Required:

  • Substance Used Disorder Professional Certification with active license in Washington State
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in the treatment of substance use disorders.
    • Training and experience in providing oversight and management of co-occurring programs. A strong background in both Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.
    • Knowledge of chemical dependency and treatment methods with a strong understanding of the recovery model, motivational interviewing, stages of change, cognitive behavioral therapy and strengths-based case management approaches and interventions.
    • Experience in suicide prevention and screening for suicide risk.

 

  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory/management experience
  • Meet the qualifications established by WA Dept. of Health for an Approved Clinical Supervisor for SUDP Trainees.
  • Computer skills and experience working in electronic health records (EPIC preferred)
  • Knowledge and familiarity of both Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders rules and regulations as they relate to governing, licensing, and funding agencies.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the health and social issues facing American Indian/Alaska Native population and a demonstrated desire to serve this population.
  • A commitment to the training and development of staff through our organizational emphasis on workforce development.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills, self-driven ability to prioritize tasks and all reporting requirements.
  •  Extensive experience with program development: improving processes, developing program specific policies and procedures, training staff, expanding programs – based on the needs of the population.

 

Work Environment:  Office hours are currently 8-5, Monday through Friday.  Our 1.0 FTE is arranged in four 10-hour shifts per week (with paid time for non-face to face care). No remote work option. Will be required to travel, as needed to our 3 clinical sites. All hours and locations are subject to change based on organizational need.
