Position Overview:

The Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communication results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, diseases  and new procedures as they evolve

  • Prepares patient for clinical assessment and diagnostic  examinations
  • Greets and verifies proper identification of patient
  • Checks consent forms for content prior to procedure
  • Selects appropriate equipment for specialized procedure
  • Assists patient with dressing and undressing in a pleasant manner when necessary
  • Instructs patient on procedure to be performed in easy to understand  terms
  • Assists patient on and off exam table and positions patient properly in order to obtain required images
  • Indentifies patients with special needs and provides appropriate assistance
  • Performs sonographic procedures  on patient  based on department policy and procedures
  • Demonstrates anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection
  • Performs color Doppler and be able to indentify anomalies and take alternative scanning techniques to demonstrate pathology
  • Assist physician with procedures when needed
  • Communicates  and documents  patient’s  information
  • Provides complete study with preliminary report and images to physician within a timely matter
  • Ensures files and records are properly completed with required information , including patient history, previous exams, procedure charge codes, etc
  • Follows the commitment to excellence and treats patients, families, visitors and each other with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism



Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (Required) / Bachelors (Preferred)
  • Graduate from a formal school of Ultrasound
  • Basic Life Support Certification - BLS
  • American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - ARDMS
  • Experience and number of ARDMS certifiations will determine position level and salary ranges

 

 

PAMF (Pediatric Specialty/ Dept. Specific Education)

 

  • 12-month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology or Cardiovascular Technology
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers ARDMS as a RDCS (registered diagnostic cardiac Sonographer, PE), or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer certification in Pediatrics by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required; Fetal Echocardiography (FE) preferred.
  • 0-2 years preferred of Pediatric echocardiography in performing M-Mode, 2-D, Doppler, and color Dopplar
