The Associate Director, Clinical Program Evaluation & Performance Measurement, is part of the Clinical Program Evaluation Team in UHC Value Creation and is charged with conducting a systematic review and impact evaluation for all clinical programs touching the lives of our members. The goal of the program is to ensure that each clinical program deployed represents our best opportunities to improve health and reduce cost. The team’s efforts inform clinical program investments, program scaling, scoping and program refinement. This researcher is accountable for designing and executing clinical program evaluation studies designed to reveal the impact of each program using leading indicator data and ultimately mature data (claims) as they emerge over time.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with senior researchers and the division leadership, design and conduct clinical program evaluation studies for planned and deployed clinical programs leveraging appropriate study design, analysis, and interpretation of analytic output
  • Collaborate with clinical program designers and implementation managers to ensure that deployment approach and data collection plan enables rigorous evaluation through, for example, pragmatic randomized trial or comparative effectiveness study
  • Partner closely with the HCE teams to learn, align, minimize redundancy and maximize synergies
  • Collaborate with Value Creation and Business leaders to help set priorities that address highest areas of uncertainty, highest clinical outcome, risk and highest financial risk
  • Document research plan clearly and translate plan into analytic documents and mock output tables that communicate clearly to the full research team responsible for supporting execution
  • Communicate in an accessible way research plan, proposed analytic output, and the insight the work will provide to business leaders. Seek feedback on early versions from business leaders to ensure the approach has a high potential to meet business leaders needs
  • Collaborate with data analysts and programmers as they execute the study plan
  • Meet routinely with diverse operational, regulatory, IT, network, and product teams across the organization to understand deeply program implementation processes and barriers and to hear their perspective on distinct programs’ value, abrasion and hidden costs
  • Advise Value Creation leaders on clinical program opportunities and implementation strategies discovered in data analysis
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to clinical program designers and implementation managers to support their growing understanding of deployment approaches most amenable to robust impact evaluation
  • Work daily with the goal to create the best care possible, the best work environment possible and the steepest trajectory of individual team member development

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Health Services Research, Epidemiology, or related field (clinical degree with significant quantitative or applied research experience may be considered)
  • 4+ years of related research experience
  • 2+ years of study design, research methodology, and statistical analysis
  • 2+ years of experience meeting timelines and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
  • 1+ years of experience working with and analyzing large administrative healthcare databases, such as administrative claims data and/or electronic health records

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Work independently and collaboratively as leader of a team
  • Work ethic and demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility with changes in responsibilities and duties
  • 1+ years of experience directly supervising analysts, programmers and junior researchers
  • 1+ years of experience applying advanced health services methods, such as propensity score-based approaches
  • 1+ year of experience with SAS or similar statistical software

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 - $171,700.
