Position Overview

The Dean of Academic Programs provides instructional leadership and administration to designated programming areas of the College and/or academic departments. This Academic Affairs position is responsible for program oversight and planning including program compliance activities, process improvement efforts for course, program and institutional assessment, program scheduling, and new, expanded and pathways program development; and develops, communicates and monitors program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement. The Dean Academic Programs works collaboratively with all areas of the college to facilitate program and student success. In addition, the Dean Academic Programs oversees and monitors program budgets and grant-related projects.

Additional campus-based responsibilities include participation in campus operations and facilities planning, engaging in regional community activities, communicating and participating in Academic Affairs initiatives, actively participating as a member of the Academic Affairs Regional Leadership Team, and giving presentations to potential educational and industry partners.

The Dean of Academic Programs supervises and coaches the Associate Deans and Academic Affairs office technicians, and may also supervise additional staff and faculty. The Dean works closely with internal and external partners to enhance learning and educational opportunities across the district. The Deans of Academic Programs report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program policy development and guidance, including but not limited to handbooks, compensation, mentoring, and hiring practices.
  • Participate in WTCS activities, foster relationships within WTCS (i.e. Education Directors), and communicate WTCS priorities.
  • Oversee and complete compliance activities/reporting for HLC and other accreditation bodies.
  • Follow and make improvements to processes for course, program and institutional assessment, program scheduling, and new, expanded, and pathways program development.
  • Develop, communicate and monitor program metrics and benchmarks related to enrollment, retention, graduation and career placement
  • Engage in regional community activities.
  • Communicate Academic Affairs initiatives including new programming ideas college- and campus-wide and with other college teams.
  • Seek, write, manage, and assess grant outcomes.
  • Assist in planning, input and execution of facility-related activities.
  • Collaborate with marketing department, Associate Deans, Directors, and/or faculty to effectively communicate informaation about program or department(s) overseen.
  • Give presentations, provide outreach efforts and engage with potential community partners, including K-12 connections, Advisory Committee members and business and industry partners.
  • Serve on district-wide committees as assigned, attend Academic Affairs Divisional Leadership Team meetings, Regional Leadership Team meetings and participate on taskforces as needed.
  • Supervise and coach Associate Deans, Program Directors, and OTS staff as designated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing required only occasionally.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field 

  • Two years (four semesters) full-time post-secondary teaching, eight semesters part-time post-secondary teaching, or four years secondary education teaching combined with part-time post-secondary teaching experience 

  • Two years supervisory/leadership experience 

  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally 

  • Ability to contribute to a team environment while maintaining accountability and motivation in self and others 

  • Strong customer service skills that focus on diversity, community, and continuous quality improvement 

  • Problem-solving skills that employ critical thinking 

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to effectively apply technology to tasks and projects 

  • Experience leading projects through time management and effective delegation 

  • Experience managing budgets 

  • Experience managing grants 

  • Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage in accordance with College policy 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in strategic and operational planning
