Assistant Legal Counsel Salary in Virginia

The Assistant Legal Counsel provides hands-on counsel to all levels of executive staff or for a segment of the business. Assists in protecting an organization's legal interest and maintaining its operations within the scope established by law. Being an Assistant Legal Counsel assists or represents the organization in business negotiations. Identifies and analyzes legal issues, drafts key documents, presents clear recommendations to top management, and assures legal compliance. In addition, Assistant Legal Counsel may manage the operations of legal department and/or attorneys in several legal specializations including tax, litigation, acquisitions, IP, etc. Requires a JD. Requires admittance to a State Bar. Typically reports to an associate general counsel. The Assistant Legal Counsel manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Working as an Assistant Legal Counsel typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
