Description
We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Cable Technician in the Hi Tech Engineering industry, located in AMES, Iowa, United States. This role will focus on various aspects of cable installation and maintenance in a commercial environment, requiring a valid driver's license and a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Responsibilities:
Pulling and routing CAT 5 or CAT 6 cable in new construction or remodel commercial environments
Terminating phone jacks and dressing and terminating distribution frames (66 or 110 blocks, patch panels)
Installing support structures such as ladders, racks, and j-hooks
Familiarity with BICSI, EIA, TIA, or NEC Standards, and the ability to adhere to them
Running or bending conduit, using digital multi-meters, and testing cable
Troubleshooting networking issues, including rack and stack work, closet work, putting together server racks, and patch panels
Working with fiber including Anaerobic Terminations, SC and LC Connectors, and Splicing
Reading and understanding schematic and line diagrams, with a strong ability to interpret these for practical application.
Requirements
Proficient in Low Voltage Cabling, Network Cabling, Cabling, Fiber-Optic, and Fiber
Prior experience in a similar role within the Hi Tech Engineering industry is preferred
Demonstrated technical skills in cable installation and maintenance
Ability to troubleshoot and repair cable systems
Familiarity with industry standard cable types and their applications
Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols when dealing with cables and related equipment
Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients and team members
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Willingness to work in various weather conditions and at heights when necessary
Good physical condition to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting heavy equipment and working in confined spaces
High school diploma or equivalent educational level
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
