While the terms RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) and ABA therapist are often used interchangeably, it is important to understand that an RBT is a paraprofessional who implements behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a licensed BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). An RBT's primary role is to carry out specific strategies and interventions designed by the supervising BCBA, and they do not have the independent authority to develop treatment plans or make clinical decisions. Therefore, although RBTs are integral to delivering ABA therapy and spend significant time working directly with clients, they are not formally classified as licensed therapists. Their role is essential in supporting behavioral progress, but the title 'therapist' typically refers to licensed professionals with advanced clinical training, such as psychologists or licensed therapists.
