In March of 1957, an Assistant Chief was appointed. Captain James Heying earned the Departments number two position over a field of 60 applicants from all over the country. One month later, three Battalion Chiefs were appointed from within the Department; one in prevention and two in suppression. Six Captains were also added at this time.
