We have been called the "premier special education facility" in the state and to my knowledge we are the only school of this type accredited both by the Joint Commission and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. That underscores our uniqueness and quality at the same time. At Perkins we always focus on standing out and leading the way in our field. The central focus of our work continues to be our day and residential programs for children ages 5 through 22. Seeing the need for our expertise in the community, we opened the Behavioral Health practice to serve children and families from the surrounding communities both here on site in our clinic and in a number of public school sites in Central Massachusetts. More recently we added our Child Development Center which provides quality day care in a beautiful facility to community children ages six weeks to five years old. Add to that to our residential and vocational programs for developmentally disabled adults and seniors, our community therapeutic horsemanship program, Rein in a Dream, and our specialized services to kids with Asperger Syndrome and you start to get a feel for the wealth of services that is Perkins. Few child welfare agencies can boast the solid program, professional staff, spacious campus and state-of-the-art facilities (one school superintendent described it as "to die for") that Perkins possesses. We pride ourselves in providing the best care with commitment, dedication and compassion for kids who often have significant challenges to surmount. Our mission is to continue a tradition of leadership and innovation in providing a range of educational programs and human services to meet family and community needs and enhance human development. We have been doing this work longer than most others, and we believe we do it better. Thank you for your interest in Perkins.

A consumer-driven industry, assisted living offers a wide range of options, levels of care, and diversity of services (Lockhart, 2009) and is subject to state rather than federal regulatory oversight. "Assisted living" means depends on both the state and provider in question: variations in state regulatory definitions are significant and provider variables include everything from philosophy, geographic location and auspice, to organizational size and structure.
