Operation Helping Hand is currently underway. This is a fundraising event to raise money for the American Legion's local Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Programs. This fundraising effort is being conducted by Ventura-based fundraising company Diamond Star Productions (DSP). DSP has been helping Ventura County nonprofits with their fundraising efforts in one way or another for over 35 years, and has helped organizations such as Ventura County Crime Stoppers, Ventura County Deputy Sheriff's Association and the Peace Officers Association of Ventura County. This fundraising event is being done through the Ventura County Council which represents all 7 American Legion Posts within Ventura County. Those who have served, and those currently serving in the uniformed services of the United States, are ever mindful that the sweetness of enduring peace has always been tainted by the bitterness of personal sacrifice. In 1919, The American Legion was founded on four pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism, and Children & Youth. Each of these pillars encompasses a variety of programs that benefit our nations veterans, its service members, their families, the youth of America and ordinary citizens. These programs make a difference in hundreds of thousands of lives each year. The Americanism pillar and Children & Youth pillar can create confusion, especially with new Legionnaires. Often the work of the Americanism programs are confused with the programs of Children & Youths because so many young people are involved in Americanism programs.
