Sharp Bros. Seed Co. is a family owned seed company that has been in business in Healy, Kansas since 1958. Brothers Gail and Gerald Sharp started their business after returning from service, in the '50s. While working with their father in Sharp Grain Co., mainly dealing in sorghums, they saw a demand for a company to harvest and clean native grasses. The first couple years provided a very steep learning curve, since no one was actively harvesting native grass, the traditional combines didn't have an "attachment" for that. Additionally, there weren't any mainstream seed cleaning machines that could process the grass seed. In three short years (1961), Sharp Bros. Seed Co. was home to one of two cleaning plants capable of cleaning large amouts of grass seed. Today, Sharp Bros. Seed Co.'s headquarter is ever growing in the heart of Healy, Kansas. Gail's son Daniel Sharp, and grandchildren are running the company. With over 50 employees, Sharp Bros. Seed. Co. is constantly looking for ways to inovate, develop, and maintaint the same level of commitment to conservaiton, never losing sight of where we came from. Sharp Bros. Seed Co. has set the standard for top-quality seed for home, farm and commercial landscape use for 60 years. Expanding markets dictated development of new and improved varieties of both warm and cool season grasses, various legumes, forbs and wildflowers. These newer varieties have joined the broad variety of seed species and local-source native seed produced to meet consumers' growing needs throughout the eastern United States, the Great Plains and the inter-mountain areas.
