BOCES, or Boards of Cooperative Educational Services, are public organizations that were created by the Colorado Legislature in 1965 to provide shared educational programs and services to school districts. The Uncompahgre Board of Cooperative Educational Services (UnBOCES) was established in 1994. The UnBOCES is a regional educational service unit designed to provide Special Education services and supporting instructional, administrative, staff, and other services determined by participating member districts. The UnBOCES is located in Ridgway, Colorado and serves five diverse districts in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado. These districts include Ouray and Ridgway in Ouray County, Telluride and Norwood in San Miguel County, and Naturita, Nucla, and Paradox Valley Charter School in the West End District of Montrose County.
