Work Sharp began as Darex in 1973 in Beecher, Illinois. The D, A and R of DAREX are the initials of three generations of the Bernard family. Grandfather Arthur Bernard, who earlier founded the Bernard Welding Company, contributed his energy and guidance to David and his father Richard. In 1978, Darex relocated to Ashland, Oregon where it continues to reside. In 2012, Matthew Bernard became the fourth generation family owner of the company. In December of 2020, the company sold Darex Industrial and began doing business as Work Sharp; focusing exclusively on the consumer market. Work Sharp, now and into the future, exists to surprise and delight the people who buy and use our products. At our core we focus first on the experience the customer has with our products, and our company. From the first introduction they have with our brands to support after purchase, we strive to stand apart from mediocrity.
