Data Management Director manages the planning, designing, and developing of an organization's databases. Develops policies and procedures to lead and manage a team of database engineers. Being a Data Management Director designs and modifies procedures to ensure the performance, scalability, and security of databases. We are a team of Program Managers, Engineering, Architectural and Physical Security Subject Matter Experts. We leverage our expertise to create site-specific adaptations of the cutting-edge Vantage Data Center prototype that meet our customers' requirements. Our purpose is to deliver high quality and consistent facilities to our Customers at speed - and have fun while we do. We do this all for our Customers, Construction and Site Operations teams.

    The Design & Engineering Department goals are:

    1. Safety - Ensure all safety measures are included in the design and implemented in the data center construction.

    2. Customer Requirements - Ensure the design includes all external and internal customer requirements and that the design is implemented accurately in the field.

    3. On-Time Delivery - Ensure that all design materials are produced and/or reviewed in a timely manner to support on-time delivery of projects.

    4. Budget - Ensure that all design materials allow for maximum flexibility by Construction to meet budget goals and customer requirements.

    5. Operational Reliability - Ensure the design and implementation of the design meet the required levels of redundancy during failures and allow for continuous operation during preventative maintenance activities.

    6. Operational Efficiency - Ensure the design and implementation of the design meet the requirements for responsible resource use efficiency by maximizing levels of Power and Water Usage Effectiveness (PUE and WUE) through the most cost-effective means.

    7. Sustainability - Ensure during the design process that all sustainability options are evaluated and those meeting the Vantage Sustainability team's criteria are accurately implemented.

    Position Description

    Vantage is currently seeking an accomplished and demonstrated Engineering Director to lead our Electrical Engineering team. The appointed Electrical Engineering Director will directly report to the Senior Director of Design & Engineering, collaborating on both strategic and tactical plans for the electrical engineering team. This role involves close coordination with the Mechanical Engineering and Architectural teams, overseeing the review of design deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and studies for various projects, including new developments, existing facility remediation, and special initiatives.

    Additionally, the Electrical Engineering Director will actively engage with the Sales and Solution Architecture & Engineering teams to respond to customer inquiries, particularly those pertaining to client-specific adaptations of the VDC data center prototype. The Electrical Engineering team will also play a crucial role in supporting the Site Operations team by assisting in design-related incident investigations and generating after-action reports.

    Collaboration with the Design Management team is paramount in this role, involving the tracking of design deliverables, overseeing the review process conducted by the electrical engineering team, and generating executive-level reports.

    Furthermore, as the Electrical Engineering Director, you will play a key role in making personnel decisions for the Electrical Engineering team, evaluating their performance, and fostering their career development through initiatives such as continuing education and membership in professional societies and associations.

    Candidate Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

    • Professional Engineering Licensure is mandatory.

    • A demonstrated and successful track record of overseeing an engineering team of 10 or more for at least 10 years.

    • Extensive experience of 15 years in the design of data centers or within the data center industry.

    • Proven expertise in developing long-term strategic goals and plans for achievement.

    • Proficiency in creating, interpreting, or modifying design drawings, schematics, and specifications.

    • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, MS Office, and MS SharePoint.

    • Strong team management abilities, encompassing effective planning and organizational skills.

    • Capability to formulate comprehensive team and project financial budgets.

    • Proficient problem-solving skills, coupled with meticulous attention to detail and analytical acumen.

    • Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills.

    Duties

    • Extend the same level of consideration to our internal cross-functional partners as we do to our customers. Cultivate a culture that emphasizes accessibility and responsiveness, ensuring timely delivery of work products, and maintaining high quality through meticulous attention to detail, even in seemingly mundane tasks. This approach aims to create a satisfied and well-supported internal customer base.

    • Provide a long-term strategic plan and related goals for scaling the electrical engineering team to meet the demands of a high growth environment.

    • Manage regional electrical engineering activities and provide engineering support from site adapt through commissioning and turnover to operations for new development projects.

    • Manage design and engineering recommendations on active construction projects to conclusion including managing internal and external resources, project teams, contractors, and vendors.

    • Oversee the electrical engineering teams efforts to QA/QC design deliverables consultant design professionals.

    • Manage the electrical engineering team's efforts on the review of work products from external team members to ensure that new data center spaces comply with all applicable requirements (OPR, BOD, specifications, code, lease, etc.)

    • Ensure design engineering lessons learned at project level are documented and in the feedback loop to drive continuous improvement.

    • Supervise the electrical engineering team's support for QA/QC construction activities such as site observation visits partnering with construction for commissioning activities.

    • Support the Construction project management team to analyze design impacts on build costs and submit approval packages to executive team.

    • Coordinate with Site Operations on design related issues that may arise once critical infrastructure is in operation.

    • Support Sales & Solutions Architecture & Engineering teams during RFP and post-lease technical customer engagement.
