Job Title: Food Service Assistant
Reports To: Food Service Manager
Service Time: 190 days

Primary Role:
Provide support to the food service manager in preparing menu items as assigned. Employee must perform and demonstrate understanding of materials taught during training. Individual in this role will provide good customer service and contribute to the overall mission of NYOS Charter School.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience working with children and adults.
- Excellent communication skills: bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Obtain the Texas Food Handler certification prior to start date.
- Experience working with Point of Sale (POS) systems, ExpressPoint experience preferred.
- FAST PASS fingerprint background check clearance
Professional Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ability to read recipes and production records.
- Prepare and serve high quality food in compliance with the USDA Child Nutrition Regulations.
- Replenish and serves meals efficiently and quickly.
- Follow all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations to include properly restocking, clean, and rotate stock in all food and non-food storage areas.
- Ensure accurate counting and claiming within the District POS system to maintain compliance with menus in ordinance with Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).
- Participate in all clean up duties, including washing dishes, sweeping, mopping the kitchen and related storage areas.
- Follow all safety procedures to promote a safe and efficient kitchen for every employee.
- Safely operate, clean, and sanitize all large and small equipment, including dish machine and dish room area.
- Be courteous in all dealings with parents, students, and employees.
- It is imperative that the person employed in this position display, always, acceptable professional and ethical standards. These expectations include confidentiality, courtesy, cooperation, positive attitude, reliability, punctuality, accuracy, efficiency, timeliness in respect to deadlines, and respectfulness toward others. The employee shall represent NYOS Charter School in a positive way, both on duty and in connection with school activities, even though the employee may not be officially on duty.
- Be familiar with and follow all FERPA (Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws and requirements.
- Perform all other duties as may be assigned.
- The employee will be held accountable for all duties of the job.
Shift:
This role will work Monday through Friday, 6:30 am to 3 pm.

Essential Functions:
Physical abilities include but are not limited to being able to stand for long periods at a time, ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, full dexterity of hands and fingers. The specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
