Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     You will perform general police functions including patrol, criminal law enforcement, traffic code enforcement, ordinance enforcement, maintaining public peace, protecting life and property, problem-solving, and working with the community to address community needs.

    Skills/Qualifications: U.S. citizen; Minimum age - 21; Driver license; Good driving record; Good physical condition; Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification upon hire; High school diploma; 60 college credits; Ability to possess a firearm; No felony convictions; No domestic abuse convictions; Vision correctable to 20/20; Good verbal and written communication skills; React quickly and effectively to stressful situations; Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays; Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems; Clear and concise speech; Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously; Ability to perform essential functions of this position; Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment.

    Experienced Officer Program: Eligible for shortened probationary period, higher starting wage and additional vacation.

    2-2-3 rotation, 12 hour shifts resulting in every other Friday-Sunday Off.

    Ability to reach top hourly wage after 2 years or less.

    3% pay increase every year for the next two years.

    Uniforms 100% paid for by Agency.

    88 hours vacation 106 additional hours of benefit time per year.

    Sick leave accrual paid out at retirement.

    Additional pay for 9.5 Holidays regardless whether scheduled to work or not.

    Other State and Military Law Enforcement eligible for the Wisconsin reciprocity exam encouraged also to apply.

    WISCONSIN’S LAW ENFORCEMENT RECIPROCITY EXAMINATION Eligibility Requirements The Board considers waivers of preparatory training for law enforcement and tribal law enforcement applicants who meet the following eligibility requirements:

    1. Applicants must meet the minimum employment requirements for law enforcement and tribal law enforcement officers set forth in Wisconsin Administrative Code Chapter LES 2.

    2. Applicants must have completed preparatory law enforcement officer training in another state (or with the military or federal government) that is similar to Wisconsin’s preparatory law enforcement officer training academy.

    3. Applicants must hold or have held employment as a certified or licensed law enforcement or tribal law enforcement officer in another state, or hold or have military veteran status in a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) as a law enforcement officer (Military Police/Security Forces/Master of Arms), full‐time for a minimum of one (1) year fully empowered and paid for all hours worked, and left law enforcement or tribal law enforcement officer employment voluntarily with a good record and been out of that employment for less than three (3) years.
