We are seeking a skilled and reliable field service mechanic to join our team and provide expert maintenance and repair services for large machinery and equipment in the field. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a customer focused approach to service delivery. This role requires working in various outdoor environments and collaborating with customers and colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of equipment.
Roles & Responsibilities of a Field Service Mechanic:
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a variety of machinery and equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and farm equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and implement appropriate solutions to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Field Service Operations: Respond promptly to service calls and customer requests for onsite repairs and troubleshooting. Travel to customer locations, construction sites, and industrial facilities to perform repairs, installations, and maintenance tasks. Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Technical Expertise: Utilize technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment problems efficiently. Provide guidance and training to customers and colleagues on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Customer Interaction: Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner, addressing their concerns, questions, and service needs effectively. Communicate service recommendations, repair estimates, and completion timelines clearly and accurately. Build rapport and trust with customers to foster long-term relationships and loyalty.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of service activities, including work orders, parts usage, and labor hours. Document equipment specifications, serial numbers, and maintenance histories for reference and tracking purposes. Generate service reports and updates for internal use and customer communication.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborate with internal teams, including dispatchers, parts personnel, and other mechanics, to coordinate service schedules, parts procurement, and resource allocation. Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues to support continuous learning and skill development within the team.
- Problem Solving: Analyze complex mechanical and technical problems, troubleshoot root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Exercise critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve issues onsite and minimize equipment downtime. Prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities to meet customer needs and deadlines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics, heavy equipment repair, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in field service maintenance and repair of heavy machinery and equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
- Proficiency in reading technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record with a current DOT medical card as required for operating service trucks
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to customer sites as needed in the company vehicle
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, adaptability, and a strong customer service focus
- Basic set of industrial tools, including but not limited to industrial hand tools, air tools, torque wrenches, and multimeters
